Trinity CertTESOL Course

Trinity CertTESOL
(CELTA equivalent)

An initial qualification for those who wish to start their career as English Teachers

Overview

The Trinity College London CertTESOL is an internationally recognised teacher training qualification designed for aspiring and early-career teachers of English. EdSkills Academy, a registered Trinity Exams Centre, collaborates with ALS Education, an approved Trinity CertTESOL provider, to offer rigorous, practice-based training that equips teachers with the skills, confidence, and professional recognition required to teach English worldwide.

The CertTESOL is widely regarded as a strong alternative to CELTA, combining solid academic foundations with extensive, supervised teaching practice. Graduates of the programme are eligible to work in language schools, universities, and educational institutions across Europe and beyond.

The aim of this collaboration is to provide a comprehensive learning environment grounded in academic support and high-quality educational services. Through close guidance and personalised mentoring, our faculty is committed to supporting trainees at every stage, offering the tools and expertise needed for professional growth and long-term success.

What Is the CertTESOL Qualification?

The CertTESOL (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is a Level 5 qualification on the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), validated by Trinity College London. It is suitable for:

  • New teachers with little or no classroom experience
  • Graduates seeking an internationally recognised TESOL certification
  • Teachers aiming to formalise their qualifications for global employment

The course focuses on communicative language teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, phonology, grammar, and reflective teaching practice.

CertTESOL Course Structure

The CertTESOL course includes a balanced combination of theory and practice:

  • Language awareness (grammar & lexis)
  • Phonology and pronunciation teaching
  • Teaching skills and methodology
  • Lesson planning and materials development
  • Supervised teaching practice
  • Observed lessons and tutor feedback
  • Reflective teaching journal

Assessment is continuous and based on practical performance, written assignments, and teaching competence.

Is CertTESOL Recognised Internationally?

Yes. The Trinity CertTESOL qualification is recognised worldwide by language schools, universities, and educational organisations. It meets international standards for initial teacher training and is accepted across Europe, the UK, the Middle East, and Asia.

CertTESOL is viewed as fully equivalent to CELTA for entry‑level English teaching positions.

No prior teaching experience is required, though it can be beneficial.

CertTESOL vs CELTA: What’s the Difference?

Both CertTESOL and CELTA are highly respected initial teacher training qualifications. The key difference lies in the awarding body:

  • CertTESOL: Trinity College London
  • CELTA: Cambridge Assessment English

In practice, both qualifications are accepted globally. CertTESOL is particularly valued for its strong emphasis on reflective practice and phonology.

Who Is the CertTESOL Course For?

This course is ideal if you:

  • Want to become a professional English language teacher
  • Plan to teach English abroad or online
  • Need an internationally recognised TESOL qualification
  • Are seeking a career change into education

No prior teaching experience is required, though a strong command of English is essential.
